About

Who We Are

The JR Schoen Memorial Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-for-profit charity formed in 2008. The Foundation was formed in order to honor the memory of JR Schoen, a 9 year old boy who lost his life to a brain tumor. Friends and family have supported the Foundation in many ways since its formation. The JR Forever Memorial Walk/5k Run took place for 10 years and supported many charities. Darien Youth Lacrosse runs the annual JR Jam 3×3 Lacrosse Tournament to raise funds for the Foundation. Hundreds of individuals and other organizations have donated to our cause.

Most recently, Provijuns, LLC, a snack food company founded by JR’s mother, Sharon Schoen, has pledged to donate a portion of its profits to the Foundation on an ongoing basis.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Foundation is to provide research funding that aims to find the cause and the cure for aggressive brain tumors found in children and those similar tumors found in adults. In addition to research, the Foundation will support the care and comfort of those children inflicted with life-threatening illness, including but not limited to hospice-type services designed to fit the needs of pediatric patients and their families. The Foundation will also contribute to other programs that honor JR Schoen’s memory and enrich the lives of children and their families
